Free Comic Book Day 2018

The first Saturday of May is monumental at Comic Book University. Don’t miss Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 5. Celebrating its 17th year, Free Comic Book Day offers a variety of comic books to ensure that readers of all ages can find something to stir their imaginations. We’ll also be stocked with creators from the comic book industry. Appearing this year will be Gavin Smith, Jackie Crofts, Paul Allor, Lee Cherolis, Ed Cho, Dan Schkade, Mark Brayer and James Maddox.
Free Comic Book Day kicks off at 10 a.m. and runs until 9 p.m. at The U.
Gavin Smith
Gavin lives in Indianapolis and is currently the artist on The Accelerators for Blue Juice Comics. This year, Gavin’s artwork is featured in FCBD 2018 Starburns Presents #1! He has worked on motion comics for AT&T, a prequel comic for the independent cult movie All Superheroes Must Die titled Charge, and cover artist for Action Lab Entertainment. Gavin is a 2011 graduate of the Joe Kubert School.
Jackie Crofts
Jackie is an Indianapolis based illustrator currently working alongside writer James F. Wright on Action Lab Entertainment’s Nutmeg. In addition to comic illustration, doing art for games is her second passion (next to gardening). She has worked on several educational games as well as her personal project, a point-and-click mystery game called Stranger Dreams.
Paul Allor
Paul is a comic book writer, letterer and editor based in North-Central Indiana. He has worked on properties ranging from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Guardians of the Galaxy to Bravest Warriors. Paul is also well known for his critically-acclaimed creator-owned books such as Tet, Past the Last Mountain, Strange Nation and Monstro Mechanica.
Lee Cherolis
Lee is an Illustrator, Cartoonist, Graphic Designer and bass player for The Shake Ups. He’s responsible for everything visual about Little Guardians including character designs, pencils and inks. Lee also organizes Indianapolis’ local comic artist and writer meetup, the Indy Webcomics Group.
Ed Cho
Ed is the writer for Little Guardians, responsible for all of the comic’s scripts and story development. Ed created a webcomic inspired by his cats at http://www.alandscout.com. He is an active member in Indy Webcomics Group, and was featured in their anthology entitled: Welcome to Indiana, with his story Skeletons in the Elevator. Ed is also guitarist for The Shake Ups.
Dan Schkade
Dan is a freelance comic book writer and artist from Austin, Texas. His credits include Will Eisner’s The Spirit, Battlestar Galactica: Gods and Monsters, San Hannibal, and The Fowl. He lives in Portland, Oregon, where he is a member of the comic creator collective Helioscope.
Mark Brayer
Mark has been working professionally in the art/design business for over 30 years, creating art for corporate and business design, greeting cards, comic strips, comic books, children’s books, book covers, character design, etc. Mark also produces artwork for Officially Licensed Star Trek products.
James Maddox
After completing titles like the critically acclaimed thriller The Horror Show, James continued his comic career with stories like THE DEAD, Clown, Eccentrix and the forthcoming The Art of the Kill. A versatile and prolific creator, his short stories appear in Spread from Image Comics, Colonial Comics Vol. 2 and The 27 Anthology to name a few. James is also a founder of the Tri-State Comic Con in his home state of West Virginia and bass player in the rock band Qiet.
